Hi, my name is John. I'm a photographer/digital artist -- and also writer, actor, stage director, computer geek and Photoshop groupie. Plus, I'm a gay man who is blitheringly joyous with his sexuality. But, if you're interested in checking out some of my more mainstream work - pretty pictures mostly of New York City and its happenings - feel free to jump over to <City Art NY> but do come back. Because I really want to talk to you.

After years of concentrating on photo-realistic work like actor headshots and corporate portraits, I've come to realize that - much as I like photography - I really have the most fun after the shoot, playing in Photoshop and its friends ... making images even better and more specific, more...explicit. I'm kind of a post-production guy - as opposed to the more traditional "take what the camera gives you" kind of photographer.
And I've recently become fascinated by the possibilities of reimagining and recreating digital photos - sometimes even 'average' photos - into striking works of art. That turns me on. And since sex also turns me on, and I happen to be gay (I did mention that, right?), Welcome To Intimate Gay Male!

Specifically, my signature is starting from a digital photo and then blending in traditional painters' strokes...while keeping at least a few selected emphasis points of photo-realism in the same image. The point is to guide the viewer's eye into something more than observation, something that triggers an experience. People tend to simply look at photos, but they study paintings. In full size, these images literally make people stop, look again, and then say something like, "Whoa! Look at that...."
I'm not gonna be satisfied until my work is hanging on home and museum walls all over the world. I mean seriously, why not?

Painters are constantly working to simplify and enhance and tap into emotion; photographers are totally consumed with faithfully recording every nitty-gritty detail and getting it right. I choose the first. And I am totally about presenting male intimacy as an inherently natural and exquisitely beautiful expression of being alive and complete.
I call the technique "Piquid" - Liquid Pixels. It is basically achieved using a photograph as, in essence, the undercoat of a painting...keeping some of the original photographic reality while idealizing most of the image with painter's strokes.

Why would you
and a partner want to participate in one of my projects?
Well, for art. That's basically what this is all about.
Also as a way to help the straight world understand that, on a very fundamental level, we're more like them than we are different. (On a hot Saturday night in Manhattan, all males in the city have an urge. I think it's called 'being a guy.')
And maybe you'd do it to celebrate and commemorate a time in your life when you were close to someone...and he was close to you, however long that may last. Because right now, today, will never happen again.
And,
since the mere act of reconfiguring pixels to painter's strokes minimizes both the pounds and the years,
the two of you will probably never look better.
There's no hidden agenda or exploitation here. I'm an artist (a professional photogarpher/writer/actor/director who does not participate in these sessions, except to take the pictures). I will work very hard to be worthy of your trust and I will respect your concerns without question.
And ... I wll make you beautiful.

By the way, I feel so strongly about this blending of art and sexuality - paint and pixel - that this web site serves as the on-line studio to market these techniques for couples who will (want/need) art prints of themselves for their own private collections. Introductory prices are on the "Rates, etc" page. But know that, even at my current billing rates, a session with print costs at least $1,000, so since I'm still soliciting couples for a while longer, you might want to get in on the ground floor while it's still free for couples....
Of course, I also photograph solo men (gay and straight) as well as male couples -- turning them into art in the same way as I shoot corporate execs, society matrons, actors, political hopefuls and regular folks who want something stunning to hang above the mantle.
And I can usually work from photographs I didn't take myself as the basis for Fine Art Prints. It's a little more complicated - we have to deal with issues about ownership of the original image and how to scan it to get it to me, not every image may have enough native resolution for the process, etc. E-mail if you're interested and we can work out the details.

But lately, my interest as a photographer has shifted almost exclusively to male couples. And while the images from any commissioned shoot are entirely private - not for my use in any capacity - I am currently looking for male couples to pose in exchange for a Fine Art Print. Those images - which do not disclose models' identity - may be utilized for my own portfolio purposes but only after the models specifically approve them for release.

Please feel free to explore throughout this site. The Portfolio page has most of the images, but pictures are all over the place. I'm open to any suggestions about making it better.
E-mail me with questions, comments, whatever.
Thanks for your time. Tell friends who might be interested about this site....
